Ultrasonic metal thickness testing of steel and aluminum hulls to detect areas of thinning caused by corrosion and/or wear. Good idea before buying a steel or aluminum hull vessel.
Prior to my career in marine surveying, I was employed in the merchant marine at various officer grades and captain of coastal size cargo vessels. Last and largest vessel under my command was a 328' (100m) cargo ship. Captain of private yachts and commercial fishing boats. Employed as a boat builder at Morgan Yachts. Four years (1963-1967) service in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. Marine Surveyor since 1981.
